Genjitsu Karate Kai
We are a practical martial arts school based in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK offering classes for men, women and children. Our comprehensive system of self-defence and personal protection is focussed firmly on the 'real world' rather than the competitive arena. We look beyond physical self defence techniques, equipping our students with the skills required to avoid, escape or defuse dangerous situations, and knowledge of the legal and ethical implications of self protection. This enables our students to make sound decisions about how to respond to potential threats, and to follow through with appropriate and above all effective action.
For experienced Karate practitioners, we offer an avenue to explore the practical aspects of traditional Karate often not taught in modern Karate schools, such as grappling, close-quarter defence, ground defence and defence against armed opponents. Our syllabus is founded upon applied Shotokan Karate kata techniques, using the 'Bunkai Jutsu' philosophy of Iain Abernethy 6th Dan, Chief International Coach of the World Combat Association

Programs & Class Schedule
Junior starters: 7:15 - 8:15pm (Thursday only)
This class is to give children a good grounding in basic karate techniques and will give you all that’s needed to advance you through the first few grades. As well as technique these classes have a large element of fun.
Junior Intermediate: Monday 7 - 8pm Thursday 7:15 - 8:15pm
This class is for those who have graded high enough to pass from the lower class or older children. There are still elements of fun but the class is stricter and more application of technique is shown, this should start to prepare them for the adult class when they get to the right age. Some competition is introduced as this can be a good learning tool for children.
Adult class: Monday 8-9:30 Thursday 8:15 - 9:45pm
In this class you will start off learning basic technique, kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) exercises. As you progress you will start to learn application of forms and use bags to test basic technique. Your form must be good in order to progress but then you must be able to apply the concepts to a real encounter or good form is pointless. Whilst this is being learnt you will be pushed so as you can have a tough mental attitude that is essential in case of a real encounter. Although karate is viewed in the main as punching and kicking, we teach karate as it was originally intended as an all round art including, joint locking, grappling and throwing. Although classes can be tough we do not run them in a militaristic fashion and manipulate the art to cater for individuals abilities
