We are proud to be the first Mugai ryu iaidō dōjō in the UK, our iaidō martial arts dōjō is in Westcliff on sea, Essex. The dōjō retains both iaijutsu and kenjutsu in its curriculum.

We do not charge for iaido practice in Essex, we simply ask that you pay £5 towards the hire of the dōjō.

Garyōkai 臥竜会

Garyō means lying/reclining imperial dragon and kai means organisation. Garyō was also the Buddhist name of Dotsu Okawa, a priest at Jufukuji and was invited to become the 17th chief priest of a temple, where I studied a bit in Japan and is still one of my [Fuso-san] favourite places: Engakuji. – An inspirational naming of our dojo by Fuso Sensei.
