Reviews of Seishin-do Karate Ryu

In 1995 I was looking for a traditional and well taught form of karate for my children.

After having seen clubs advertising ninja turtle karate and other spurious forms, I was fortunate

enough to discover Seishin-do karate ryu. It was well run, properly organised and offered a traditional

form of Shotokan karate rather than a hybrid form that is often available in other clubs. Moreover, the instructors put the art first and finance second, again an aspect not found in every club. After several years my three children all achieved their 1st dan which they had to earn rather than be given as did I; in fact I still continue to study at the ryu.

Many people, especially women, would like to learn some form of self defence to essentially develop self confidence but feel intimidated at the thought of training in a martial environment. Regardless of age, ability or sex, Seishin-do ryu does not operate under an intimidating atmosphere; rather it offers an amicable and caring environment that wants everyone to learn, improve and respect the traditions of a well established martial art.

If you want to learn everything there is to know about Shotokan Karate then this is the dojo to go to. The teaching structure is thorough and informative and the sensei's answer any question you've got to ask. They're highly knowledgable in their field with years of experience behind them. The art is taught traditionally so you not only learn how to do the techniques but why and when, and a little history of the art too. The club is a tight knit group all of whom want to be there and love the art they're learning. The sensei's will time and time again go out of their way to help you, staying back for sometimes over an hour to talk about a specific problem or help you with a certain kata or technique, I know from personal experience! But beside from the serious aspects it's also a lot of fun to train there with a bunch of people who are there to learn but also like a laugh at the same time, there's no reason not to like this club.

Having studied several martial arts in many different schools around the North East of England I was amazed by the quality of instruction at the Seishin-do Ryu. The instructors at the club have decades of knowledge and experience and possess a depth of understanding of Shotokan karate that is rare to find outside of Japan.

The instructors at Seishin-do Ryu are extremely approachable, patient, and willing to answer any questions and do what they can to help you develop as both a martial artist and a person.

All ages and skill levels are catered for and if you are a beginner then there is no better place to get your start in martial arts - even if you have previous karate experience, you will find there is still much you will learn at this dojo.
