Abergavenny SKC
Abergavenny karate club was formed in 1978 by sensei Ken Whittington and has been running regularly ever since.
We are a small friendly club that always extends a warm welcome to beginners or to people who have trained before and wish to start again. Karate can be practiced by men, women and children. In fact anyone who is in reasonable health can practice and enjoy karate. We accept males and females from 8 years of age and above. Some of our members are raw beginners and some have been training for many years.

Programs & Class Schedule
Training
The club meets at the Abergavenny leisure centre school gym every Monday and Thursday At 7:30 pm and trains until 9pm.
Our club trains in the shotokan style of karate and is affiliated to the japan karate Association.
This means that the club trains in the same way as is currently practised in Japan.
The emphasis is on long term development and understanding of karate techniques rather than a short term goal of displaying flashy high kicks or simply trying to win medals.
Karate provides a good workout but trainees are not expected to push themselves beyond their own limits. Anyone who is not flexible and unfit will be given time to get used to the training methods and will slowly but surely find that their body adapts to the training.
The type of karate we practise is a sport, a self defence method and a fascinating martial art.
