Belfast Shodokan Aikido is an excellent club! Training every Tuesday and Thursday from 19. 30 to 21. 30 for £4 a session (first session free). Instructors are knowledgeable and experienced (20+ years for most of them) and teach in a friendly, patient and understandable manner, offering help and advice at all times. Class is structured beginning with basic movement and distance exercises (kihon), followed by Shodokan Aikido techniques (kata), avoidance training and application of techniques in competition (randori) and at times self-protection. Whilst keeping the structure and etiquette of the Japanese martial art, the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. It's a good place to be every Tuesday and Thursday and well worth the money!
I have been training here since 2003. It is a friendly club who are passionate about teaching Shodokan Aikido. The quality of instruction is excellent and fun is always to be had in the classes no matter what your grade is. I've found it a great way to escape from life for a couple of hours, meet some decent folk and every class is intrinsically nourishing in some way. Come and give it a go!
