A bit about our Ki Aikido:-
Aikido was developed by a Japanese master who had trained in many different martial arts. His art was however not simply a mixture of moves from those arts, but more a development of the understanding of them. In other words Aikido is much more about understanding movement, energy (Ki) and the human condition than simply learning moves. Some call it the thinking-person’s art because it is very precise and frankly you spend much of your time fighting with yourself, knowing that you can do something, but having to un-learn years of bad habits in order to do so.
I truly believe that Aikido students are probably the friendliest people you are ever likely to meet, so you needn’t be concerned about walking into the lion’s den. From beginner to black belt we all have the same troubles, just at different levels, so everybody is more than ready to help one-another.
We spend the beginning of the class performing exercises and tests designed to strengthen our Ki, make us more relaxed, confident and coordinated. Later we start to incorporate some of those exercises into defensive movements.
