I came to GMA about 2 and a half years ago with no previous training in any form of martial arts, I wanted to try it out and see what it was all about.
It is a great club with fantastic and approachable instructors and students! The club is geared at self-protection/defence as oppose to sport, bringing all the elements of traditional karate into play under adrenaline fueled Scenario sessions.
Like I said its a great club and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep.
A club like no other

I have been a student at GMA for a year and a half, and the quality of training I have received is amazing. The quality of instruction, not only from the Sensei's themselves but from the senior grades, is second to none.
Everyone is like a family, as stated previously, so there is a real friendly atmosphere. We are taught everything. From basics and padwork, to ground fighting, sparring and even going into Scenario Training as GMA teaches from a self defense martial art, and not a sport martial art.
In short, if you are looking for something, that will not only get you fitter, but also skills that will help defend yourself. Grove Martial Arts is for you!

This is the first club i have trained at but i think its the best one i could have picked for me, they are very friendly, always willing to help if you need it and everyone in the club is like a big family.
The training is to a very high standard and everyone helps each other, the instructors are good and give you all the help you need.
Great club, Great instructors, Great students i wouldn't change what i have at this club for anything.

Having studied martial arts prior to joining GMA I set my standards high as to what I wanted from the club To which I commit my time and money. GMA does NOT disappoint. With 3 black belt instructors (sensei) a number of experienced students and links with some of the most widely respected instructors in the world the wealth and range of experience is fantastic.
The mix of traditional and reality training is potent and the question 'why am I bothering to learn kata' is never on a students mind here as it becomes VERY evident as kihon, kata, bunkai, pad work an scenario/sparring drills smoothly progress the muscle memory learned during Kata to real situations.
Great club, great people, love it.

Last year I had the good fortune to spend a couple of months training at Grove Martial Arts, a Goju Ryu Karate club. Properly understood, Goju Ryu is an incredibly comprehensive and effective martial art, and that's exactly what you'll find here - practical self-defence, taught by instructors who really know what they're doing. I currently live about sixty-five miles away from Grove, but am still more than happy to make that journey (when time allows) in order to train with GMA - so if you're lucky enough to have this club on your doorstep then you should certainly go along and give them a try!
I started with the club some time ago and have been there on and off for a few years now. I have learned so much from training there. Sensei Peter.chris and Ivan are fantastic and they also encourage the higher grades and let them to train the classes to improve their development. You learn a vast amount of knowledge and the basics to the karate. You have scenario training which puts you in real life situations which is a fantastic way to learn. You have sparring sessions, learn about groundwork the possibilities are really endless. If you are interested in learning martial arts in a fantastic run club then grove martial arts is for you!!!!!
