Gym 01 is not far from Fratton Park, and provides a comprehensive level of tuition and facility for everyone from casual MMA fan (like me) to UFC fighter (UFC's Phil Harris trains and fights out of Gym 01). The gym holds two large matted areas, a full size ring, and full size cage (the best cage I've seen outside of the UFC's version). There's also a weights/cardio room, and punchbag area.
Instruction is provided by a number of professionals with qualifications coming out of their ears. Personal training sessions are available at reasonable prices.
The gym doesn't suffer from the kind of traits that being down some other gyms, like unwelcoming staff and bullying training partners. Everyone there seems to have a good attitude to training and progression. There's still room for improvement, in that the mens changing room could be bigger and hold lockers, but all things considered it's an ideal choice for anyone remotely interested in MMA.
