Ikiyōyō-Ryu Bujutsu Dojo was founded in 2000 by the current chief instructor. We are a small friendly club and welcome all people. Whether you have previous martial arts experience or are a complete beginner we hope that you will learn something new and enjoy our lessons.
Ikiyōyō-Ryu Bujutsu grew from the traditional martial arts of Japan. These include unarmed and weapons techniques practised for centuries by warriors of different classes and as self defence for civilians. We celebrate the knowledge that traditional bujutsu offers within modern approaches to learning. Ikiyōyō-Ryu Bujutsu is an art that is both traditional and relevant.
Through Ikiyōyō-Ryu Bujutsu we aim to embody the positive values of Budo (Martial ways).
The focus of Ikiyōyō-Ryu Bujutsu is better self control and physical control. We achieve this through the application and study of:
Atemi Waza - striking
Nage waza- throwing
Kansetsu waza- joint locking
Ne waza- ground fighting
We also incorporate a range of weapons
Randori (controlled, instinctive fighting) is utilised to engage in martial movement
