Practicality real life

There is a bad review on this site and the person said that he done Wing Chun for many years and found it impractical and criticised grandmaster Joseph Lee, my experience/opinion is nothing like his Sufi Steve was taught by Joseph Lee and he is the best martial arts instructor I've ever had I did boxing & kickboxing before I did Wing Chun & to be honest I was able to use the techniques I learnt from boxing & kickboxing straight after the first lesson. With Wing Chun it was different I Felt uncomfortable in my stance and a lot of the techniques I learnt to be honest I believe would never work in a million years and to start with I would just have got myself beaten up if I tried to use it in real life. I felt this way for a good six months then one day I was attacked and the techniques just came out by themselves Wing Chun became second nature to me it's like everything just clicked together everything I learnt. From that day onwards any time I found myself in a situation where I needed to defend myself it was more than practical and very helpful I spent time in prison and I was raised on a rough council estate in West London and there are many times I believe that knowing Wing Chun actually saved my life

I have studied with Joseph Lee for over 10 years and have never looked back. I was shown more in my first lesson than I had ever seen in years at my previous school. There is no big secret. Everything is explained well and the breadth of knowledge and understanding this teacher has is quite remarkable. Of course, as with everything, the amount of practise and effort you put in is up to you.

I studied wing chun under Joseph Lee for a few year when I was young. To be fair he is just a very average wing chun guy. The stuff he taught us was not practical for a person to overcome a stronger opponent. He did not explain to us the principles and concepts of wing chun due to the fact I think he was a bit uneducated. He didn't have much control as I far as I know he injured a couple of his students quite badly during demonstration. He also never seemed to chi sau with his students which made me very curious. He wanted to fast track his students to become overnight teachers which I thought was wrong due to the lack of knowledge and experience of some of his students. His skills were very average especially if you compare it with some of these top guys in Hong Kong. He became very money orientated and a lot of his early students left. When you look for or studying under a Sifu, never believe in them 100 per cent, don't believe in secretive techniques such as 'this technique was only taught to me by my master'. Also the skills he teach you test it and see whether it's effective and finally find out your master's experience in martial arts and don't start giving them good money.

His skill level and coherent methods are echoed in his senior students and instructors.
