Launceston Shotokan Karate Club is the home dojo of Sensei Roger Carpenter, 8th Dan, the Chief Instructor of SKKIF. It is a traditional Shotokan karate club affiliated to SKKIF in the UK, which is the UK representative of Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) - a worldwide organisation in 130 countries. Grades are internationally recognised with all black belts are registered in Japan.
Dedicated to following the guidance and philosophy of its World Chief Instructor, Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa (10th Dan), SKKIF offers a comprehensive training syllabus for traditional Shotokan style karate in both set and freestyle fighting. Apart from gaining a thorough grounding in self-defence, training with SKKIF improves and maintains fitness, flexibility, speed, strength, self-awareness and discipline. The teaching structure results in high technical standards and the ability to utilise techniques in practical situations. It is however an inclusive style of training so that karateka of all ages and abilities are able to benefit from the training.
New members (experienced or beginners) are welcome at our club, which is based at the Community Centre, in Lifton, Devon. We are close to the A30 dual carriageway making access easy from Cornwall and West Devon. We have a range of members from beginner to black belt who travel from as far away as Exeter to train. We also have a sister club in Chagford, Devon.
