The Makotokan teaches Yoshinkan style aikido as originated by Shioda Gozo Kancho and based on the pre-war teachings of Ueshiba Morihei. Yoshinkan aikido is a highly structured system and very traditional in its approach.
The school is led by Tony Hughes sensei, 4th Dan, who has nearly 40 years experience in aikido. The club is directly registered with the headquarters dojo in Tokyo, Japan.
Yoshinkan aikido is one of the more practical applications of aikido and as such is the martial art of choice of the Tokyo Riot police. Our training includes use of certain Japanese weapons.
