Newbury Aikido Club is a friendly, sociable club aimed at both juniors (ages 6-15) and seniors (ages 16+) that focuses on the Tomiki style of Aikido.
Aikido is a style of Martial arts that encompasses a number of styles, from those that can be taught safely to children without damaging their joints, progressing through the self defense techniques to the more complex competition styles and the more physically acute styles, as used by the Japanese elite police force - you can move through the styles to suit your physical abilities and sporting requirements.
The Senseis for the Junior class have been teaching children from 6 years old to 16 years old for many years, are proficient in a number of martial arts and make the sessions enjoyable, fun and engaging, whilst guiding the children to achieve their best. An active hobby, to build self esteem, physical fitness or to competition standards - the choice of level is up to you.
The Senseis for the Seniors are highly knowledgeale in a number of martial arts and are understanding and friendly.
if this is your first martial art, you can rest assured the Senseis will look after you and guide you to the best of your potential, whilst keeping the sessions fun.
If you are looking to go to competition standard, or are joining us from the police or armed forces, you will find the Senseis can clearly direct you and fine tune your techniques to elevate the level of your martial arts skills.
