Nothing here will teach you to protect yourself. If you want to go somewhere and play around with sticks and hit pads you'll have a great time. Just don't go in with the idea that you could actually use it. Also if you want to use it to lose weight there are far better and more useful alternatives if you look in the right places.
A very family-friendly, professional academy.

My two eldest sons and my husband have been training in Taekwondo at rpmaa for over 3 years now and they all love the fun yet professional atmosphere that the club has. I have also started ladies-only kickboxing classes and our youngest son (who is just 3 years old) will be starting "mini ninjas" soon too. The family feel to the club is what keeps us all training there week after week. I can highly recommend the academy to anyone who wants to improve their fitness, confidence, gain new skills and make new friends too.
If the goal of your training is family fun then this may be the place for you. However, you will find that the majority of the black belts present cannot throw a decent head kick.
I attended the mixed martial arts program once taught. Upon leaving for a different gym, I quickly realised the techniques I had learnt were, to put it kindly, less than functional. This is evident by the fact that the program failed to produce any successful competitive fighters and eventually shut down. I suspect the same is true of at least the Muay Thai, and I know it to be true for the Krav Maga.
