Japan Karate Academy is a traditional and highly respected club within Scotland and indeed Great Britain having been crowned British champions.
A dynamic and well-disciplined karate, blending modern Sports Science with traditional methods giving us a unique blend of Karate rarely seen outside of Japan. Having our headquarters in Japan also gives our members a wonderful opportunity to travel, study and educate themselves at the highest level. Key words such as respect and discipline play a huge part in our philosophy and the benefits to one’s self-confidence and general health have a positive impact on all who participate. All our Scottish Karate Governing Body [SKGB] qualified coaches are PVG checked, promote positive coaching, have completed an extensive coaching programme and hold an SKGB national coaching license. Class fees are pay as you attend and can vary.
Teachers often comment on how the discipline has a dramatic effect on their student’s performance at school with improved concentration levels. Parents and mature members who join are often the most enthusiastic so we encourage all ages to participate and enjoy the benefits of exercise and learn self-defence. Parents can train at the same time as the children at the Renfrew club: Tuesdays 6-7pm and Saturday mornings 9.15-10.15 [adults separated with a different sensei delivering a more mature content].
St Ninians club: Monday and Wednesday

Junior students [under 16s] are requested to engage in tidy up duties before class. This helps with discipline and in a sport where we practice in bare feet, a safer training environment.
