Samurai Arts is a women only class based around the art of Japanese battlefield sword work.
Later in the syllabus we also teach a range of weapons, including; Bo and Jo staff, wakizashi (short sword), fan, spear, naginata, shuriken and un-armed techniques.
The sword work taught comes under the term kenjutsu, which originated from the samurai class of feudal Japan, it means "the method or technique of the sword". Kenjutsu schools (or ryu) are the old style or ancient schools.
It comes from the early samurai arts dating back to 1000 AD before the ryu were formed; sword arts come from the 18 arts of the samurai that the ryu would teach.
Other weapon techniques covered later in the syllabus come from Kukishinden Ryu.
