An interesting and effective martial art

Combining harder techniques like strikes with softer nerve locks and throws, this is a very effective all-bases-covered martial art, taught by excellent teachers.

The spaces used for training are all excellent, and the training itself is tough but rewarding.

Definitely worth trying out.

The best Shorinji Kempo instruction in Europe

Mayfair Shorinji Kempo dojo has been going since the early 1980s, when it started up at Danceworks in Balderton Street. It has been through a few different venues in the meantime, but it has always been the dojo of Tameo Mizuno, the chief instructor of the British Shorinji Kempo Federation.

I joined the dojo in 1992 and stayed there until 2002, when I moved out of London. Mizuno sensei is a brilliant instructor and he enjoys teaching beginners just as much as black belts. You will find the training serious but all the members are very friendly and welcoming to new people. If you're looking to try a traditional Japanese martial art with one of the best instructors in the world, this is the place for you.
