South Norwood Jitsu (Jiu-jitsu/Jiujitsu/Ju jitsu) club is a martial arts club that focuses on practical, real-life self defence in an urban environment. At South Norwood Jitsu Club, the focus is on a system of throws, locks and strikes that is built on the principal of using an attacker’s momentum against them. As such it’s an excellent form of self defence for both men, women and children.
Defences are taught for single and multiple attackers, both armed and unarmed. Defences begin with simple grabs and build up to attackers armed with bottles, coshes and eventually even training knives. Throwing is also an essential element and adds both a martial (hard throws) and art (elegant throws) twist to training. An emphasis is placed on learning to fall safely before learning to throw, in order to properly prepare for throwing. Training in jujitsu will provide a strong cardiovascular workout, with the sessions beginning with a 20 minute warm-up featuring core strengthening, cardio and stretching.
