The Surrey Karate Academy (SKA) is run by Shidoin Fernando Mahamud (4th
dan) and the group of yudanshas (black belts): Mark (2nd dan) and Brad
(2nd dan), Matt (1st dan) and Brendon (1St dan). SKA is also mentored by
Ben Craft Shihan, 6th Dan who also holds a black belt in Ju-Jutsu.
Fernando Mahamud has over 26 years of experience training various forms of
karate, aikido and ju-jutsu. SKA offers a comprehensive and holistic
approach to functional karate (Karate-Jutsu) with a strong emphasis in the
correct used of biomechanics; as well as a healthy academic approach to
the wider martial arts discipline.
We provide full support to students with access to private footage
directory, explanatory photos and a lively private WhatsApp group. With
small classes, we are able to tailor tuition to individual needs. We
operate an “open door” policy and anyone is welcome to come and train with
us whether on a regular basis or ad-hoc bases with absolutely no
limitation in age (18+), gender or any knowledge of martials arts.
SKA is fully insured by the British Martial Art and Boxing Association
(BMABA) and our affiliations:
Karate Jutsu Gakkai (KJG Co-founder, alongside Shihan Ben Craft)
English Goju-Ryu Karate Federation (EGKF - Technical Director)
Shibu Dojo of Hanshi McCarthy's International Ryukyu Karate-jutsu research
society (IRKRS).
