The aim of self defence is not to be taught how to fight, but how to avoid fighting before it arises. If physical conflict is unavoidable, we learn how to minimise damage and extricate ourselves from the situation in the shortest possible time. The sessions are fun, but there is a serious underlying theme with an emphasis on the survivor mindset and self awareness. My initial training was in England, but I eventually went to Japan, studying at the Hombu Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido. I trained for a year with the Tokyo Riot Police and in 1998 qualified as an instructor from the infamous International Sensushei Course. I also have experience in Western Boxing, Jiu-jitsu and tai-chi. www.surreyselfdefence.com
