Aikido Classes
Crosby Tenshinkan teaches self-defence based on the classical Japanese martial art of Aikido.
Developed in Japan in the early 20th Century, Aikido techniques don’t use physical strength. We learn to blend with the force of the attack, redirecting it to apply a throw or immobilisation rather than opposing it head-on. We aim to avoid direct confrontation and control aggression without inflicting serious injury.
The study and practice can lead to great benefits in both mental and physical wellbeing. In addition to self-defence, it can help with relaxation, flexibility, stamina, speed, power, breath control, health and harmony.
Classes are for everyone and anyone and Aikido is practiced equally by both male and female. There is no upper age limit with each student gaining their own individual benefits from their training.
We are a member of the United Kingdom Aikikai. All instructors are qualified and fully insured.
No previous martial arts training is required so if you're a novice or expert, looking for an easy way to stay fit or just fancy giving it a go, everyone is welcome.
Your first class is completely free, so you can try it out with no obligation. You don’t need any special clothing to start, just come along in your T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms.
