Great system, allowing one to evolve at own pace. Nice to have discussion and break down some of the principles that underpin technique. Clear and precise and based on realism, unlike so many other so called "defence" systems that rely on pre determined patterns and repetition. Would be nice to see more females and the "older" generation involved and people with physical disabilities

Started training TBD Jiu Jitsu 3 months ago after wanting to learn a martial art for some time and I've been so impressed I can't speak highly enough of it. Firstly I turned up on my own not knowing anyone but was instantly made to feel welcome. Friendly mixed class of all levels. I had no martial arts background but Al and the other instructors are extremely knowledgeable and engaging and take time to work with and develop everyone. The system itself is diverse and incredibly effective and can be learnt and be of benefit to anyone regardless of age, sex, fitness or experience. The first lesson is free so there's no reason not to try it for yourself and with a low monthly subscription giving you access to train up to 4 times per week if you choose it's extremely good value!

I train primarily with Cardiff TBD but get to Risca whenever I can. Alun Williams enthusiasm and passion is infectious and am glad to say every student and instructor has seem to have caught it.
TBD is a practical and functional self defense system that you can actually visualize working for you in those situations where may need to protect yourself or loved ones.
I can honestly say that I have learnt more about the principles of movement, body mechanics and actual body defense in the time I have been with the club than in the years I spent as a competitive fighter first in the Lau Gar system and then as a Thai Boxer.
Try it and get infected you won't look back believe me.

Upon stepping foot in Sensei Williams dojo I could see this was very different to any martial art I studied before. The club felt very alive and welcoming. Alun made me feel welcome. The instruction is well delivered. A very practical system to learn and effective. No ego exists here. A friendly atmosphere to learn in, I recommend joining TBD it changed my life and boosted my confidence. I stuck with it gained my first Dan, completed my instructors course and now run Cardiff TBD along with Paul Hughes.

TBD offers a focused, safe and friendly environment in which to learn a new life skill.
I have been so impressed with content and delivery of the sessions that I will be enrolling both of my children in the junior club. I wish I’d started years ago.
I had never done any martial art training before but was invited for a taster session because I was killing time after the gym. I am completely hooked and this is only my second week. Though I have only been twice the principles of the techniques taught are really logical yet eye opening. I feeling even after a short time I have an understanding of the strategy to defend myself (even if I would struggle to execute it :) ) There is lots to learn but the people there are very encouraging and supportive. I think it sinks in more if you explain the moves and techniques to someone else so people are keen to teach and help you progress. This makes for a very friendly atmosphere. There is a fitness element which you can get out of it as much as you put in. The focus is on technique so the class is for people of all ages and differing levels of fitness. I very much recommended it but be warned, it is addictive!
