We are based in Chagford, in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon and teach traditional shotokan karate. Chagford about 5 miles off the A30 between Okehampton and Exeter and just off the A382 from Bovey Tracey to Whiddon Down. It is close to Moretonhampstead, Lustleigh, Drewsteignton, South Zeal, Sticklepath, North Tawton and Cheriton Bishop.
We are affiliated to SKKIF in the UK, which is the UK representative of Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) - a worldwide organization in 130 countries. Grades are internationally recognized with all black belts registered in Japan.
SKIF is dedicated to following the guidance and philosophy of Hirokazu Kanazawa (10th Dan), a direct student of Gichin Funakoshi, who was the founder of shotokan karate. We have a comprehensive training syllabus for traditional shotokan style karate in both set and freestyle fighting. Apart from gaining a thorough grounding in self-defense, training with SKKIF improves and maintains fitness, flexibility, speed, strength, self-awareness and discipline. The teaching structure results in high technical standards and the ability to utilize techniques in practical situations.
