Programs & Class Schedule

Kaishi Karate School is a member of Karate England, and as such our aim is to encourage your child or you as an adult to enjoy the classes and help develop your karate skills, as well as help you or your child benefit from increased confidence, discipline, concentration, and coordination.

Classes are designed to introduce children to the discipline of karate in a friendly and fun way. Children will either start in the junior class or senior class dependent upon their age, where they will be encouraged and helped to achieve the syllabus as well as the martial art disciplines of respect and good manners. Grading tests take place at the end of each main term, where the children or you as an adult in training, may be promoted to the next level. Anyone who wishes to grade must be registered members of the school.
What happens during class? A normal class consists of going through a set of warm up, strengthening and stretching exercises, before learning and practising the techniques required for grading tests. This means learning the punching, blocking, kicking techniques of the Gojuryu karate system as well as patterns or kata and learning to spar in a controlled way. In addition, games to develop concentration, coordination, teamwork, and confidence may be played, or stories on martial art philosophy told. Children can also work towards earning various badges.

Why should you encourage your child to learn karate? Karate schools throughout the world are noted for teaching children things that are not normally taught in normal school time. Things like manners, respect, keeping your word, how to avoid conflict. Of course, we teach children how to fight in order to defend themselves, but the emphasis is on avoiding getting into such situations in the first place. Confidence comes from knowing that you can take care of yourself.

The first class is a FREE TASTER lesson.
We use this lesson to see how your child, or you get along. From the second lesson, tuition fees are payable. The initial annual membership is £40 and is required for insurance. This fee includes a karate suit, a kit bag and welcome brochure. Please note that adults are not able to come into the venues (Covid safe reasons) but when we are allowed to, we will again arrange ‘viewing weeks’ where you can attend and watch the class.
The renewal fee each year thereafter is £30. Students must be members to train. Please note that all fees are non-refundable, and all classes are currently pre-bookable due to Covid-19 health & safety needs.
Kaishi Karate School has been awarded the Sport England kite mark for Safe-Guarding. Many martial arts schools do not have this kite mark as it is not compulsory. Kaishi having completed the requirements demonstrates they are committed to safeguarding.

Kaishi Karate School also runs a Champions for Life character education programme included in the classes and price. We feel it is invaluable for children to practise forming good life habits such as, courtesy, concentration, and respect to name a few. We also have our own app and YouTube channel as well as optional additional squad training at Karate England seminars.
