The club was founded in 1989 by the chief instructor, Geoff Ibbotson. The club moved to Leeds Metropolitan University in 2010 and has been growing from strength to strength. In 2012, Manon Hughes joined the club and became and instructor. Both Geoff and Manon are experienced instructors and have coached national champions (also won a few themselves).
The club offers traditional shotokan karate training, with an element of real life self defense. The club is open to students, staff and the general public. SKD is affiliated to the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and the United Kingdom Traditional Karate Federation (UKTKF). Both Geoff and Manon are qualified coaches and are CRB checked.
All are welcome, no matter how experienced!
