Pencak Silat Kuntao Matjan (PSKM) is a hybrid art blending Indonesian Silat with southern Chinese tiger-style kung-fu that comes from Semarang in Central Java. Instruction is traditional and the repertoire includes hand strikes, kicks, sweeps & throws, joint-locks & grappling and traditional Indonesian weapons. Meditation, 'Indonesian yoga' (senaman asli) & qi gong, and traditional therapeutic massage (pijat-urut) are also taught.
PSKM is taught in the UK by Professor Philip Davies who has studied the art since 1981 and was authorised to teach in 1987. His senior student and assistant instructor, Dave White, began studying in 1998.
The system is headed by émigré Dutch-Indonesian master Paatje Richard Kudding who resides in Calgary, Canada. PSKM is recognised by the International Pencak Silat Federation (PERSILAT) in Jakarta, Indonesia and a member of the Pencak Silat Federation of the UK.
